Teaching friends digital scrapbooking?

Hi everyone. I have been digi scrapping for a few years now, and I have tried to convert some of my paper scrap friends with no success. They all like the look of digi scrapping and seem interested, but I can't get them to actually start.

Once I sat down with a friend for a few hours trying to show her the basics, and she just didn't "get it."

I am just curious if others of you have tried to convert friends without success, or am I the only failure, LOL.

you got farther then I have, you at least got someone to sit down and actually watch you creating something!

I have one GF who bought a new computer, wanted to try digi (she never paper scrapped) but like's what I can do and wants to do it for her kids. I have talked with her on Hello, given her all the links she needs to get started and haven't heard a word back from her about scrapping at all. Told her I would be at her beck and call for any questions she would have, so no you are not the only one to have people just not get this.
I think some of them are just overwhelmed about the prospect of starting and understanding all of it. Digi has grown so much since we started and we grew with all of it and learned as we went along. I think if I had to start now with all the info that is available with programs, organizing tools, forums, galleries and stores I would be overwhelmed also. While there is so much more info at our fingertips now to help newbies out, it has to be even more confusing as there are so many options and opinions.

I have tried and tried with my sister - but to no avail - she wants to learn but finds it too overwhelming. I believe than unless you really want to learn and sit down and just do it - you won't. It definitely takes a commitment. Me - I'm hooked and loving it!

You are right there is a huge learning curve! I'm sure I'd be overwhelmed if I didn't know as much as I already do. Its so fun and easy though once you get the hang of it!

The learning curve for me was huge too. I did my first layout in Dec. of '04 and then didn't touch or make another layout until June of '05. I needed more time to sit down and work. Once I got going I took off.

I have tried to teach one person who I teach with. She sat with me as I worked through showing her the layers, and how to do it but she just isn't too computer techie to begin with and was very overwhelmed! I told her the best thing to do is to just sit down and try it all out! Learn by mistakes

I have a friend who wants to learn digi scrapping and was going to come to my place to take some lessons. That was 2 years ago. lol My daughter is doing some things with photos in photoshop and loving it. She still loves to do her paper albums though.

I've shown my daughter and grand daughter a bit about digital scrapping. However, I think they'd rather leave it up to me. They're both so busy they just don't have the time to sit down and play with it. Plus I guess I've sort of spoiled them with the pages and mini albums I've done for them. But I did help a former workmate to get started. She was a paper scrapper who decided to convert. The last time I talked to her she was still excited about digi but not finding as much time to scrap since she now has a little girl to take care of.

I have tried for years. Of all my friends who either don't scrap or who do traditional paper scrapping, only one has converted. And for her, it is a slow process (she's been dabbling for 3 years now without really getting into it). She says she wants to, and it would be more natural for her because she is a computer nerd like me......but for some reason, people just seem to have a mental block about digiscrapping.
