Question about PPI for Layouts

I was wondering if anyone creates their layouts in a lower PPI and then later increases the PPI/adjusts the layout size just prior to printing. I was thinking about doing this just for the quicker computer response time. I have 500 meg of Ram for my system but sometimes it struggles when rendering the higher res images.

What do you think?

Hrm...it doesn't sound like a good idea to me. What ppi are we talking about?

I work in 300 ppi with no probs (512 mb ram, P4 2.4 gig processor) and 300 ppi prints out beautifully.

The thing is, if you start small and then enlarge the program has to "fill in" the gaps. That will lead to greater visual pixelation.

I've also worked in 150 ppi and that prints out ok too. Wish I could be more of a help.

Thanks Suzanne,

I was referring to the graphics I create in Photoimpact - not an image or photograph. I was hoping I would have more room to play as far as pixels as long as I hadn't saved the file. Apparently, PI still interpolates the pixels when resizing from small to large unless it's a vector.

I was very familiar with this concept as it relates to photographs but wasn't sure if this was the case in images created from scratch.

Thanks for responding to my post!
