I would like to make some photo books for xmas gifts this year. Can anyone recommend a good site? And, is it possible to upload entire digital layouts to use instead of their pre-made designs? Thanks for the advice!

I've used Blurb.com for 2 books. I am pretty happy with the results. There are a lot of layout options, one being a borderless page, and I was able to upload a LO for that page (you have to save your LO as a jpeg) or in case of pictures of me, I call them j-pigs

I have only used Shutterfly so far, and was thrilled with my book when it arrived. If you do a search on Shutterfly here, i am sure you will find lots of info. Good luck in your search. BTW, I believe most companies offer full bleed, non template pages.

I have gotten books from Shutterfly, Snapfish, Walmart, and MyPublisher all with good results. Shutterfly has full bleed 8x8 and 12x12 books with templates to show you exactly what will be trimmed. I just got an email this morning from Snapfish.com and they now have 8x8 and 12x12, but no specs so far. The Shutterfly books with the custom covers are amazing. I'm working on one now.

I just have to put in a plug for Shutterfly. I recently got my custom book back and it is amazing! I'm very impressed with the speed of service and the print quality. Everyone I've shown the book to thinks it is the best! I say go Shutterfly!

shutterly is much cheaper than blurb with all their coupons... but blurb is nice because you can get the full hardcover dust jacket. Mpix just recenetly started doing this as well and is worht checking out.
