I think that's a great question. This is totally a personal preference. I love seeing multi-photo pages, especially when they are done really well. For me it depends on what I'm scrapping. If it's an event, there is more likely to be more photos. If it's sort of an observation or emotion - like a journal entry kind of - there may be only one photo and more journaling. A lot of scrappers treat scrapbooking as more of an art too, and less of memory keeping so there pages will have a different look to them. Often, there is a graphic design aspect too. For instance the use of white space is a design element that contributes to the overall feel of a page. All that said, there is no right way to do it - do what makes you happy. Wanna put a dozen pics on a page - go for it!

As for the art work, I create most of what I do either by hand or using clip-art. I also use photos of things for texture.

BTW, here are some really great multi-photo pages that I found in the gallery:
MGM Orlando

Bum Busting

Oh heck. I'm getting that darned server error again.

Edit:
okay here are some more:
Sugar and Spice
My First Road Trip
Play Ball

Everybody has provided some excellent answers. I work in 2-page spreads, so may have more photos on one page than the other, but I don't post all of my layouts in the gallery. I will actually be weeding my gallery over the next month as I have finally settled into my preferred style of digital scrapbooking.

I also journal as much as possible so that my children will have the full story... really got into that habit after my blindness scare with cataracts. I have been given a second chance to record absolutely everything, so I am going to do it.

Since you are a photographer, you know about the rule of thirds. This is also something that we use when composing a scrapbook layout. With too many photos or elements, you will lose the focal point you were trying to achieve. Sometimes the journaling IS the focal point when only one photo was taken, and if the photo was poor quality then you make it small so it looks a bit better.

Finally... there are many different reasons why people create scrapbooks. Some do it for the artistic/creative outlet, some do it because it is fun, and some do it to preserve their family history. Some also create layouts to showcase/promote the designs of a specific designer. If you peek through my gallery, you can probably tell the reason why I created each of my layouts just by looking at them.

Have a fun adventure with your adventures in digital scrapbooking.

Hello and we agree SBB is a fabulous place to become a part of!
If you haven't found them yet, SBB has a lot of freebie/sample downloads of different papers, elements and such so you can get started with very little start up cost. Especially since you already have your program and computer! LOL
The link for this is up in the Downloads Tab at the top (register free), you can also buy a membership to SBB which is located in your (My Settings) link in the top left corner of all forum pages. The paid members have 100's and 100's of additional free downloads.

Another great way is to attend chats and special events that happen here such as the Digital Scrapbooking Day on November 3rd.
Other then that, have fun and so glad to have you here!

Don't worry about whether it's worth showing or not. I posted my first layout before I looked at the gallery, which is probablly a good thing because I got so intimidated by the talent here. But the friendliness and genorisity of the members truly overshadows the talent (if that's possible). People left comments and found something good in that layout and encouraged me to keep going. I really don't think I'd still be doing this if I had posted that layout at a few of the other galleries I now post at. CC is good, but scrap for you and what you like. A style will develop over time and probably change too.

Yes, just jump right in and have fun creating! SBB is the most supportive, positive site I've found, so don't feel intimidated or worried.

I purchase most of my kits in addition to getting some through certain designers because I'm on their Creative Teams. I create layouts that showcase their products in exchange for free designs. I'm always on the lookout for a quality freebie, too.

I love using the rule of thirds in my page designs. I think it can help a page from feeling too busy. You'll probably find many of the design principles you use in photography work for designing scrapbook pages, too.

Again, just jump right in and post a page! And let us know so we all can take a peek at it.
