I don't know if the average user would find it helpful, but I use it a lot for designing. I also use it for photo editing, detailed extractions, dodging and burning, etc. I think it also comes with PSE so that makes it even more valuable.

It is very helpful.. but does take some getting used to. Unless you invest in the top of the line watcom touchscreen - you'll have a decent learning curve. Like LD said. it is good for design.. and touchup where I use it for. But then again.. I'm a mouse man so I don't use mine much.

I have one and use it when my mouse hand and wrist are getting sore. Mostly photo editing. It does take some getting used to and I don't find it easy to switch back and forth between the Wacom and a mouse, so I don't use mine a whole lot.

I used mine all the time (not a designer) and loved it. I found it easy to get used too and can switch back and forth between pen or mouse. BUT- mine had very portable use and frequent connection and disconnecting from laptop and in and out of storage case....as a result it seems my cable has started going on the fritz in not even a year's time. Next time I will consider wireless over USB cable

I've asked for one for Christmas too! And the friends I know that have one, never use a mouse again! Infact, one friend hasn't touched a mouse in ten years, she told me!

I can't imagine not having mine. I am left handed so I use the pen in that hand and mouse with the right. On the Wacom site there is a questionnaire that can help you decide what size and model might suit you best and then if you'd like you can comparison shop with other manufacturers.

I just got mine less then a week ago and I love it! I got the smaller Graphire 4. I thought I really wanted the larger one, but couldn't afford it. But i'm really happy I got this one. The active part of the tablet represents your entire screen, so you use your pen to point at the actual point of your screen. Had I gone for the larger one I would have had to cover a large area. I haven't done much designing with it yet, but you can focus the active area of your tablet on a smaller part of your screen as well. I do think I will still use my trackball mouse a lot as well. That works very precise, down to a single pixel if I want to. But the pen is wonderful for freehand drawing, doodling, scratching and such.
