Newbie here and need some general help...

can someone direct me to information on what to do about the following problem.

I download and unzup some kits and some are just in perfect use for me....sometimes I download kits and some items are represented by a windows icon and not the general photoshop or jpeg icon....I know I have to overwrite these icons to get them to work...but how do I know what ending to use....? I want to use all these papers and such but as they are unzipped in an un usable format I don't know what to do.

I am always scared to purchase kits becuase what if they come in the wrong format.? With that silly windows icon instead of the ones that I am familiar with.

Please Help or direct me to some help.

Thanks in advance

Roni

Hi Roni!

Can you tell me which kits you have downloaded that give you the funny icons? or can you attach a screen shot of what you are seeing? What extension do the files have on them now if not .jpg or .png? Most digital scrapping items will be in .jpg (papers) or .png (elements) format.

I know that when I started winzip that comes with a microsoft computer (right click unzip button) won't unzip RAR files. I just finally figured out there is a program to unzip these so that they can be used. It is an archival system that some in Europe use. I am a newbie and this was my biggest challange with some freebies.

I will have a look see and then try to attach a screen shot. The files are off at work...I will try to remember to look at them there and post then.

Thanks for your help!! Seems like quite the community you have here!

Sweetpea Hillbilly you can download winrar very easy here:
http://www.winrar.nl/
you would need the second file on the left, which says (english version) behind it.
Winrar can do both unZIP and extract RAR. I use it all the time.
It can also pack RAR and ZIP files!!!! Besides it has a fix tool for corrupt zip files so you can still retrieve the data from it, and it's much easier to work with compared to winzip itself.

Roni it might also be helpfull if you tell us which program you use, so we know for certain that your scrapprogram supports the files.
The only 'weird' icons I've seen in zipfiles are the DS.store files and some pdf files with TOU. sometimes the icon seems weird but the files can still be used, unless your on a MAC pc, that works differently again.
