Question Saving video to computer or DVD

I was wondering if anyone knew how to save video off a video camera (not digital ) to a computer or DVD? Is there a program you can use? Any suggestions? Hubby made some video of our new baby with his old video camera instead of my digital camera , now we want to save it but aren't sure how to get it onto the computer. Thanks if you can help!!!

Not sure if this will help. We had an outside source transfer 8mm to VHS tape. I later wanted it on DVD, so I hooked up both the VHS player and DVD recorder to the TV and recorded onto the DVD from the playing VHS tape. (Confused yet? I spent hours with TV, DVD, and VHS manuals trying to hook up that mess, so it can be done.) If you don't have a DVD recorder at home, video places that do transfers would be able to do it for you. Try getting it to a VHS tape first.

When you say 'old' camcorder what format is it?8mm, Hi8, MiniDV..

also not sure if this helps but I did the same thing as LynnZant with our DVD burner (not on the computer but the stand alone for the TV KWIM?), I just hooked up the VHS to DVD burner and recorded (using cords with 3 plugs on each end like this
The DVD burner we have has a spot for our camcorder as well, so all I do is press play on camcorder and rec on DVD burner

One of our computers has a special video card that allows us to record videos/cable TV to the hard drive, and then burn to DVD. As long as you have the video inputs at the back of your computer, it isn't a hard task to do.

I got a special cord that allow me to run the output of my old (non-digital) video camera into my new digital video camera (which is hooked to the computer). So the new digital camera acts just as a "converter" or conduit for the signal to run thru into the computer.

There are several video transfer programs you might check out Adobe Premiere Elements
