computer running slow

Ever since I got the internet on my computer, my computer has been running really slowly. Does anyone have info on making computers run faster? I checked to see if I have viruses and my virus program says I don't (it is updated).
Thanks in advance for your help

What kind of computer do you have? How much ram and HD space? Is it only slow in the internet? Have you cleaned the cookies and temp files? Sorry lots of questions but had to get all the nitty gritty.
Also, try this program called adware. You'd be suprised how many spywear programs run in the background.

I have an HP laptop with AMD turion 64 ml-37, 1 gig of me, and 160 gig hard drive (about half full). my computer runs slow with any program right now. I cleaned the cookies and temp files a couple weeks ago. How often should those be cleaned out?
Thanks for the adware program. I will try that out.

Depending on how often you surf you should clean your cookies and temp files every 2 weeks or so.
There is also a lot of other regular maintence which is essential for keeping you computer running well.
Read our article here on how to improve your perfomance!

Something to try is removing some of the startup items that are constantly running in the background. Here is a site that shows how to get there and another one here that you can search through to see what you can uncheck.
Also, do you by chance have nortons? I find that to be a huge resource hog which can bog down a computer. I use AVG which love and have used for years without a problem.

I had a ton of adaware stuff on my computer and was able to remove it. My computer runs much smoother after all the checks I did. Thank you both so much for your help Shellyrae and diamente.
