printer recommendations

I have tried everything to see if my relatively new HP will print my pictures according to what I see (or calibrate my monitor to see what I print). I tried to view my layout from a crt screen (I have an LCD), that didn't work. I even have an option on the printer to change color cast, saturation, and all sorts of stuff, but when I change this for the print, it doesn't do anything, no difference whatsoever. So I am looking for another printer. I used to have a Canon IP 3000 and after calibrating my screen, the prints came out very close (if not exactly) to what was on my screen (even my LCD), but after over 600 prints, it died. I don't want to try HP anymore, this recent experience left a bad taste in my mouth for them, but I would like some feedback on what some of you have found to be the best printer. Thanks in advance for your help.

I've heard Epson is great. I have an HP myself and am pretty satisfied with it, altho I don't regularly use it for printing my LO's.

I really like my epson, I don't print layouts though since it isn't wide format but I get almost exactly what I see on screen.
They have an option to print Adobe RGB and it is very close to what I see in PS and I use this to proof color swatches and kits.
the BAD thing is the ink.. OMG mine has 7 cartridges and you can almost buy another printer for what it costs to refill the darn thing

I'm not with the "times" on new printers and where they have progressed in the last 3 years; but have a HP printer from 3 years ago and it prints gorgeous photos and layouts.
