After owning a scrapbook store, I have many albums with completed pages. My layout process consisted of creating a 12x12 layout for our album, plus 2 layouts in 8.5x11 size for each daughter's album, plus 8.5x11 albums for the grandparents. That worked well until I lost my sight, leaving me unable to even see to sign my name let alone cut along lines.
So yes, I am re-doing many of the pages as digital layouts using the information from this site to improve the scanning process and to edit the photographs to make them 100% perfect. My plans also include creating albums from the photos and negatives I have dating back to about 1905, even tho they are already in the albums created by my ancestors. I want each of my daughters and my nephew to have copies that they can keep and duplicate when they have children of their own.
There will be many different answers to your questions, as each person creates layouts for different reasons. Mine is to preserve the memories for my family, and to show them how special their lives are. But then again, I am just a sappy old scrapper that is trying to keep up the scrapbooking tradition that my grandmother started back in 1927.
