Question Scanned elements with a transparent background?

I did a search in the forums on this and found a tonne of information. Trouble is I haven't got to frips with the l***o tool in PS yet and wondered if there is an easier way to make a background transparent so that a scanned image can be used as an element. If there's a way to do it in DIP than that's even better? Maybe Shelleyrae could answer this?

Thanks for any suggestions,

Anna

is frips a japanese word? in ps, i just select the background with the magic wand tool and hit delete. might need to clean up shadows and such, which i do the the polygonal l***o tool so you can click every so often and don't need a steady hand. i'll email this link to shelleyrae though to see if she can help. she's been under the pregnancy weather lately, so she might miss it. HI Anna
IS it DIp7 or DIP9? I'll give you the info for both and whatever works

IN DIp7 you have 3 ways in which to remove a background or a combination ..by colour selection select the background and cut it ..this works well for a solid background but may still need soem cleaning up around teh edges ..the easiest way is to use the transparency brush set at 100% zoom right in and erase teh left over edges.
YOu can also use teh edgefinder tool. This works well if the edges of the object is well defined. Zoom in and use the tool to outline the edges of the object, you can make adjustments after you have finished and then save the object in a new project deleting the background. Again use the transparency brush set at 100% to clean up any stray pixels.
Lastly if there is only a small amount of backgroud use the transparency brush for teh whole lot.
For DIP9 teh methods are similar but the tools slightly different. Use teh Selection tool Freehand to draw around the object and copy and paste it. You can also us ethe edgefinder , colour selection toools as well and that transparency brush maks a great eraser.

It also helps if you scan an object in to use a coloured paper such as green or blue rather than white or black or the scanner lidas a background ..makes it far easier to delete the background later

Hope that helps ..yell if you need more specifics

Margie - Haha!! You know what it's like with typos! Sometimes my brain is just accelerating faster than my typing. Made me smile though!

Shelleyrae, thanks for that! I'll have a go and let you know what happens. Hope you're feeling better - I was so sick with Ella too. Appreciate the time taken to respond,

Anna
