new here

Hi all,

I have found myself surrounded by Computer scrappers these last few months, so I figured I ought to bite the bullet and give it a whirl. Lets hope I don't defenstrate the computer first.

So i figured I would start with something easy right... not worry about a whole layout and start with an element... so I found the tutor section and went to create an eyelet. Just one.

I can't find anything in Photoshop that mentions rasterizing. SO i skipped that part (anyone wanna let me in on the secret?) and went ahead without it. Not the best eyelet ever but i was pleased that it almost looked vaguely like an oddly shaped eyelet.

So, is there a "beginners guide to digi-scrapping for the complete idiot" out there that I have missed? Because i have some questions that I am POSITIVE are so basic the old timers would have a chuckle.

Thanks... and here's to hoping I learn how to do something!

look under LAYERS in the top menu

OOPS! guess I should mention I use a Mac. No right clicks for me. I hope I didn't confuse you.

well, we really are the beginner's guide around here! no guides we know of, exept for the tutorials. please feel free to ask though. we all have! and we don't chuckle long. then soon you'll get to chuckle yourself.
right click the layer (if it's a shape) in the layers palette and choose rasterize. if it's not a shape, then you don't need to, it's already rasterized. depends on how you started. there's a million or so ways to do anything. if you used a circle shape tool and drew a circle, you'll need to rasterize before you can delete the hole in the center. if you used the circle marquee tool and made a circle selection then filled it. it's already rasterized, so you can just delete the center. hth.
and i'd recommend trying the tutorial for a basic page at the bottom of the ps page here. informational, tutorials, ps. it'll get you familiar with the tools and settings. nothing fancy, just basics. and yeah, i wrote it. but feel free to post any questions any time!! that's what we're here for! Ü

Welcome

Hi there! I'm new also and can totally relate to how you feel. I haven't gotten to read all the info here but alot of it looks helpful. I think you're smart to start out with small items. Good luck!

Go up to your pull down layer menu and rasterize will be there as well. If you can't click on it, that means its already rasterized. If you can...well you get the picture.

The only thing I ever have to manually rasterise is text that I want to alter.

Just right click on the layer you want to rasterise and click rasterise.

Good luck

Hi Amber! Nice to see you around these parts!

In PS, it's Layer>Rasterize>Shape

No such thing as silly questions! Ask away!

ok You asked for it

When starting something new....an element like an eyelet... how large of an area should I work in? Is there a standard size file I should be aiming for?

I realize I am starting off with one of the hardest programs to work with for a beginner (PS), but is there some kind of dictionary so that when someone posts a word I don't know I can look it up ( I am still learning the site, so if there is one I just havn' gotten that far yet)

that should do for starters thanks for the help~
