Size of Christmas Cards?

Hi, (I had no idea where to put this post BTW, so hopefully someone will find it and help me LOL!) I want to make Christmas cards this year. I need help making them the right size. So far, I've done all my LO's (wow! all 5 of them! LOL) in either 8x10 or 10x8. What size does my canvas need to be? (I don't know if I'm even using the right terms but someone knows what I mean, right? lol) I've seen lots of really cute ideas so far...

Do you have the envelopes you want to use? I would get those first...measure them and then determine what you want your canvas size to be.

Well, I usually use the invitation size for my cards but I've also used the 5x7's as well. What size comes out better? Also, I've always made my cards in coreldraw or other programs. Can I make a foldable card in adobe or do I have to import the image in another program? If I do have to import, will I lose quality? (Sorry for the gazillion q's! LOL) I really want to make my own cards this year...thanks a bunch...

Either size would work fine. You just need to set your canvas size appropriately. PS doesn't have a "card template" like other programs, but you could always design the card, save as a high-resolution .jpg and then import it into another program.

I made a template for cards, 8 x 10.25, the maximum size my printer will do on 8.5 x 11 paper.

The template is simple, a selection box of 8 x 10.25 with a 2 pixel stroke to outline the boundaries. I put a horizontal line across the page where the center of the printout falls (it is usually not the center of the page, for my Canon S9000 it is at 5-3/8") to show where I will fold the card.

I drag my outside picture onto the card template, resize it to suit, then do the same with the inside picture (all on layers). On the back I put "cardz by boB" and the date.

Since the outside & inside pictures are in the same location I turn on only the outside layers first, then print the outside. Then I turn on the inside layers, turn off the outside layers, turn the paper over and print the inside. Be sure to let the card dry sufficiently first.

Fiskars has an inexpesive paper cutter that includes a 'scoring blade' that puts a nice fold line on the card.

It's fun and people really look forward to custom cards!

have fun,

boB
