Unhappy Auto FX

I have downloaded demos of the DreamSuite bundle and PhotoEdges, but am having problems with them working. They keep locking up and I get the 'not responding' error from XP.

I have tried to contact customer service, but not help yet. I really want to try or use this software, but the price is just way out of reach for me right now. The bundle goes for $399, that is just WOW, way too expensive.

Are there any other plug-ins for Photoshop that would be as good? I have EyeCandy, but only use a few of those filters. They are good, but they are not spectacular.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

i think that you would have been disappointed with the demos. i don't know about photo edges- but the dreamsuite demo is *not* fully functional- you can't even play with your own pictures (you have to use theirs).

try xero graphics. they have some pretty nice plug ins that are free. i like the Soft Mood plug in and the Grey Tinter.

oh- and i just checked that site out, and they've uploaded a 4th set recently . some of them look neat- not sure how i would use them for scrapping (lol).

I also tried the DreamSuite bundle as well (for my Mac) and couldn't get it to work properly. It took forever to install and only one filter was available when it finally did install. I uninstalled it. Their price is outrageous and after the disappointing show with DreamSuite, I would never consider buying their product. Just my humble opinion.

Mommymonster, thanks for the link to Xero Graphics.

I also considered auto fx but decided the use I'd get it wouldn't be worth the money. I was aware Xero is out with a fourth set so thanks for letting us know! I'm on my over there...

A spectacular filter is spectacular in the eye of the beholder. EyeCandy 4000 and SuperbladePro tie for #1 on my Must Have Spectacular Filters list.
It's all in how you use it. I used EyeCandy 4000 to create my wax seal, halloween globe, magic eight ball, scrabble tiles, ....... the list is too long. I couldn't imagine doing graphic designs without it.

I just tried to download some plugins from the site given above and I keep getting a message saying that windows cannot open this file because it doesn't know what created it. Can someone explain what this means?
Thanks,
Lisa

I have their edges 5.0 and absolutely love it! There are problems with it, like it is slower than cold tar! But I have found a way around it. I open a new document (transparent) in photoshop. add a second layer and fill it with black, then add the edge to that black layer. Then I save it. That way, I have my favorite edges saved in a folder. To add a saved edge to a photo (make sure it's cropped to the size you want first) I just drag the black layer with the edge over on top of the photo and resize the edge layer. Then I hold control and click on the edge layer. You'll then see dancing ants. I select (highlight) the photo layer. Then I push the little layers mask button at the bottom of the layer's pallet and it adds the edge to my photo. I then just click the eye button next to the black edge layer and turn it off so I can see my photo. I know it sounds crazy, but after you do it once or twice, it's super quick! If you are going to frame the photo as is, shrink it to 85% so that you can still see the cool edge after it's framed.
