VERY VERY UPSET!

I have been burning my kits to CD - R disc for the longest time and recently put a bunch on DVD-RW to have more room for storing the files. I am now trying to access those files from the DVD and it says that window cannot read the files or the disk is corrupted. Now this is occuring with three different disk. I am just wondering if I am doing someting wrong. I opened the other ones I burned with not trouble.

Now I have lost a great deal of kits I had stored on this disk which has me wondering about external hard drives. What good would an external hard drive be? Would I run the risk of losing my files again? How does an external hard drive work?

Thanks for any info,
Chelsea

Is it possible the session is still open? *Disclaimer.. I haven't used DVD RW* but when I used to use CD-rw that happened to me and all I had to do was go back into my burning software and 'close session'
An EHD is just a hard drive outside your computer, it CAN crash just like an interal drive. I backup my files to a DVD before transferring them to an EHD, then I can organize them on the EHD however I want and know that it is backed up.
I also use a 4gb jump or USB drive as a temp backup when designing because I wouldn't want to lose a week's worth of work.

External hard drives are awesome. It uses a USB port on your computer to communicate, and basically, it shows up under "My Computer" in your browser as another drive, similar to your C:/ drive. You can store files there, you can use it to perform regular system backups, whatever you like. I store my media files on mine, as well as use it to perform regular backups of my C drive. It's VERY user friendly, basically plug and play. And they are becoming very affordable for lots of storage space.

I have two EHD. The only problem I have had is trying to open TidBytes e-zine. Everything was working fine until two or three of these would not open. The error message was something about memory-not too little but the wrong kind. Which is odd because I have been opening these ezines for a few months using my EHD. So I lost these and moved the rest back to me computer's hard drive. The kits and pictures I have on the EHD open okay.

Thats why RW DVD's and CD's arent recommended for storage - they are too unstable and too easily corrupted
There are recovery programs out there that may help - google and see what you can find for free but otherwise use DVD - R and make sure you finalise the discs

Do not use RW...ever. Unless it is ok to lose something
Put your RW into the drive and call up your burn software. CLOSE Session (finalize). This should, I hope, do the trick.
