Question I need some info about Apple Computers

I am a hard core PC user, but DS has just finished his first semester in film school and he got hooked on a Mac. He wants a Mac laptop too. I was looking on Ebay just to see what is out there, but I don't know what to look for. I told DS to ask at his school what would be good for him to get that is not too expensive and would serve him in what he needs to do.

He just finished his finals and a couple of nights he stayed until 5:00 AM using the mac computers in the school lab. He does not have a car and I don't want him walking home in the cold that time of night/day. kwim? Does anyone use a Mac around here? Any knowledge you can share?

My one sister uses MACs, and all I know is that you want a laptop with the better graphics capabilities. It will cost more than the regular laptop, but I was very amazed at how it showed even poor-quality images at a larger size. Hope that some actual MAC users will post some info for you (I just wanted to mention the must-have higher quality graphics option).

Is he going to be doing editing on it? If so, make sure you know what program he's using (probably something like final cut, maybe avid) and then find out their recommended computer for the software. also, if he's going to be using an editing prgram like that he should buy it, because he can get an educational discount as a student, which is usually pretty good compared to retail not too much help, but hopefully a little bit!!

Have you tried the Mac web site for referebished laptops? They may be able to help and I think they have a one year warrenty on their machines. It's something to think about. Just my 2 cents.

Yes.. I would peruse the mac shop online for details.. since MAC's are not sold generally around, you'll be paying a premium for ownership.. especially a laptop. Compusa has a decent selection in their stores.. but again.. prices are premium. Finding out exactly what he will be doing on it is key in determineing the hardware you will need.. laptops are not easy to upgrdae so getting it right the first time is critical and can make a huge difference between a machine you love and one you just like. Good Luck!
