Using Elements?

I downloaded a page kit and it has elements in it. Well I'm trying to recreate the sample page but I don't know how to use the little elements in it.

They are .png files and I don't know if I'm supposed to open them like a normal .jpg or what.

If I copy and paste them then I end up with a white background all around the element.

Also what kit was it? Maybe one of us could walk you through it using the same element and program you are using

I'm currently using PSP 6.

ETA-The freebie thing that I'm using is located here: http://www.digitalscrapbookplace.com...freebies.shtml

Hi,

Open the .png file just like you would any .jpg file.
Do you see a checkered background or do you see a white background on the element image?

I am not 100% sure but I don't think that PSP6 supported transparent background? I don't have PSP6 installed anymore....I just asked in the corel newsgroup...they will know for sure!

Lets start with this first anyhow just to see how you see them..then if you are good to go we can move unto placing them individually onto your layout!!

Ok incase you can see a transparent background, using your selection tool, draw either a rectangle, square or circle around the object on the .png image that you want on your LO.
You can move the selection (marching ants) with your left or right mouse button. They changed which one does it...but it works in PSP6, so click inside your marching ants and hold while moving your mouse to postiion your selected area where you want it.

When you have it there, go to copy and then make your LO image the active image and then do Paste as New layer. Now your element will be on a layer of it's own so you can move it around where you want it!
hth's if not let me know!

This is too funny, we asked to see the kit in question and you supplied it...hehehehe
Thank you so much for being so responsive, however we kinda don't allow links like that in the forums (to other sites) so just a heads up that the link will be remove and you didn't do anything wrong at all! I seriously needed a chuckle right now...so thank you so much!
I know we were under the impression that it was a freebie from Scrapbook bytes!! hehehe

But it's all cool and we will help you to get those elements moved onto your LO!!

I was trying to find a kit from here that had those sorts of things but I knew that was the one kit I was using so I posted the link.

It has a white background, around the element thing. Like the faith tag I think it is, has a white background around it.

ETA-Maybe its just my version of PSP? I uploaded the images to my photobucket acct and they don't have the black or white background on them anymore. Weird.
