Questions about Going Digi?

My name in Becca. I'm thinking about going digital. I have PSCS2 and know the basics of using it. I already use PS to fix up my photos and then print them. My questions are really more about how much I might be spending each month on "supplies" if I go digital. I spend about $25-75 per month on paper and embellishments. I spent alot more when I started scrapbooking and was buying all the tools. How much do you spend each month on kits and elements? Where do you find out about new digital products? TIA!
Becca

I've also recently gotten started, but so far - I've managed to do just fine with freebie kits, papers and elements. Many digi scrap sites offer newsletters with freebies and many designers have blogs with freebies.

I still like paper copies, and although I haven't had any pages printed yet, I can get 12x18 pages printed (one 12x12 with 2 6x6 on one page) for $2.25 each (Canadian pricing) - and since I used to be an embellishment junkie, I don't think I could often scrap an elaborate page for much less than that...

Plus, if I'm looking for a certain element late at night - I don't hav eto wait for stores open, I can just go surfing through all the digi sites looking for what I need...

How much you spend will really depend on how much you want to spend for it. When I get my LO's printed, I spend about $30 or so, but those are for at least 20 12x12 pages. I get them printed professionally. I don't print them myself.

Re: kits, like nuance mentioned, there are a lot of freebies out there. You may want to try those out first as you explore the world of digi. There are a lot of free downloads right here at SBB too. SBB also has a free newsletter that you can subscribe to. A lot of the other sites have newsletters too that offer discount codes or feature new products their designers are coming out with. SBB has a lot of awesome designers in the store so I'd suggest browsing the store.

I suggest setting a budget for yourself first coz it'll be so easy to get carried away with all the gorgeous goodies available! LOL!

The great and fabulous most wonderful thing about digi kits is that once you buy them, you can use them over and over and over and over again, which you know you can't do with paper. So that's always something I consider before buying anything, is it something I'll use again and again? Almost always a yes. I've never printed any of my LO's out though, so can't tell you how that will run.

Printing a 12x12 costs about $2 per page. If you move down to 8.5x11, you can do it for about $1. Everything else is up to you.. plenty of free stuff on the web including fonts, elements and backgrounds. making a background paper is as easy as opening a new document, render clouds, render clouds, gausian blur, modify Hue. That's what I call cheap!

Please- where can you get pages printed at those prices? Just ordered 30 letter size pages (borderless) at a copy center and the cost is $90. They have to print them on 11 x 14 paper then trim because of "bleed" and charge $10.50 just to pull the files off a CD! So far that is the only place I could find to print my pages.
