printing comes out washed out looking

Hi- I am still learning how to digiscrap and have done about 6 pages. But each time I go to print them out I am disappointed. The colors on my screen are much more colorful and vibrant compared to what gets printed out. I have a Mac (G4) and an HP printer- 5150. I use the Best quality and even tried increasing the amount of ink but it doesn't make any difference. I use high quality paper- tried both photo and matte finishes. What recommendations/hints/tips. Maybe I need a new printer. Maybe the jets need to be cleaned. It has 2 tanks by the way. I look forward to any help, Judy

Hi
Some of the information in these articles may help:

Monitor Calibration http://scrapbook-bytes.com/cgi-scrip...icle_426.shtml
Printing FAQ: http://scrapbook-bytes.com/cgi-scrip...icle_132.shtml

The HP model you have is an older printer model 2003 I think and if i remember rightly it doenst use a photo cartridge just the color cartridge which may be affecting the prints

Thanks, yes, it is an older model. It does use a photo cartridge but in the past I haven't noticed that much difference when I use it but to be truthful, I haven't tried it since I have been doing some digital pages...... :-(
Will give it a try, Judy

I'm only vaguely familiar with the concept -- but what are your color profiles set at. I recently tried to print some photos that were so vibrant and full of life on my screen -- but very dull and lifeless when I printed them out. Turns out I had the file set at Adobe RGB, and the printer was using SRGB. Now I do all of my files in SRGB, and they come out just as I want. Hope this helps you!
