Arrow Template

Hi, I looking for a basic template to use sort of like, I call an underlay so i can use it in differant programs so I can use as a guide so i dont go over the sides of my paper project which is a 8.5"x11. I sure hope this makes sense to someone. I saw this somewhere and not sure if it was here. thankyou so much for helping a greenhorn...LOL

I'm not sure what you mean by underlay. Could you clarify that for us? Is it used for measuring purposes only?

I think what you are talking about is a guide so that when you design an 8.5 by 11 inch layout you can see what margins your printer imposes so that you can stay within the printable area of the page.

Since printers vary so much, I can recommend that you experiment. (My HP printer prints within 1/4 of an inch on 3 sides and 3/8 inch on the other.)

Here's a suggestion.

1) Create a new project/document 8.5 by 11 inches. Resolution won't matter in this case, so just use something small like 72 pixels per inch.

2) Color in a margin 1 inch wide around all 4 sides. Use any color you want.

3) Add some text to the page so you can tell top from bottom when the printing is done.

4) Send to your printer. Be sure to tell the printer driver not to scale the image to fit the printable area.

If you measure the white margins around the edges, you'll know just where your printer doesn't print. You should then be able to create a simple bordered "underlay" that has lines where your printer margins are. If you can't figure out how to create the underlay, contact me with your measurements & I'll send you a PNG file.
