Creating Patterns

I know alot of you have said you sometimes get your pattern ideas from :example, your daughters dress or hubbys shirt, etc etc...but......how do you get them on paper..(so to speak)...Do you scan the article of clothing, or take a digi pic of it? Was just wondering...
I have seen so many patterns from clothing , books and etc, that I love , I just don't know how to turn them into digi patterns for scrapbooking....

Thanks,
Renee

I'd say my personal preference would be to scan... this minimizes the "flash" effect that you might get; but again JMHO... I usually scan most anything of this nature.

Same here
Lighting is too hard to control with a photograph and the scan picks up teh texture better

but remember that you can only do that if you are planning on using it for personal use only... no freebies made out of it nor selling it.

If that is what you are after you can scan it for the color swatch and then try to find clipart that resembles the print, etc and then you have to create it from there on your own.

Thanks for replying girls...So let me see if I got this right...I am not a designer (Yet) but If I wanted to design something to give away (or sell at some point) I can only use the colors of whatever inspires me and I have to find clipart, that I have the right to use, right? Is that
what some people use in their kits, clipart that is already created? Like watches clips and so forth....

On another note, I have been working on a layout of my dh and I am stuck...It lacks something, and I need to add his initial somewhere but dont know where or what to use...Would it be ok to add the lo here so I can get some suggestions,,,its my first one...

Thanks,
Renee

Just add the layout to the gallery and post a link here in this thread so we can have a look at it. You can always replace it later with the final design.

I take a pic of the clothing flat on my bed, then I open it and cut out a square for the size I want. Heres one:

This one I made the fabric transparent and put a pink background in behind (pink was in the dress) I also added a smaller peice for a ribbon.
Other times I got Lucky and found paper that matched
