How do you pick "the" photo?

I am a photographer and of course I take many images of my son, whom I am doing his life story for him, he is 6 years old now. Alot of my photographs of him are in posed, outdoor studio style situations. I usually end up with about 9-12 photos that are "must have" and I just can't choose only 2 or 3, I want them ALL. How do you all bear to only put one or two photographs on a page layout? I always do double layouts, so that helps, but I feel like I have tried everything since I have had so many "sessions" with him. I have tried doing alot of 2x3's and a 4x6 on one page with a 5x7 on the other page, I have done the layout of the 2 vertical and 2 horizonal on both pages. I just was hoping to get some insperation. I have actually been paper scrapping for the last 6 years but I made my first digi layout the other day, and I am interested in starting digital books. It is just all overwelming right now thinking about the time it takes for the learning curve. I really don't know where to start and I am NOT creative without a little nudge for creativity.

I thought I would include my first layout with my first post on the forum

Thanks, Lissa

I unlocked your thread, Lissa, so that people could reply to you.

I have two suggestions for you. The first is that surely out of 8-10 pictures, there are some duplicates when it comes to telling the story behind the picture or of your son. I'm sure they are all adorable, but choosing just the two or three BEST that either really showcase his personality or the story if there is one, i.e. birthday party, behind the photos, will leave you room on your page for journaling, elements, and all the other fun things that transform it from 'just' a photo to a work of (he)art.

My other suggestion is to have your other photos burned to CD/DVD and eventually printed off and put into photo albums. The photos I have in photo albums are untouched and 'bad' while the photos on my layouts are often retouched, tweaked, and manipulated within an inch of their lives.

HTH!

loads of photos

I am not a photographer, just a shutter bug, but I also take lots & lots of photos of my grandkids. For instance, at my grandson's 2nd birthday party, I took 87 photos, lol. Like you, I feel overwhelmed, but I will pick out 1 'special' shot I like to make a large layout, then use several of the 'best' remaining photos for the side by side page. I know that out of 87 photos, only perhaps 10 will be to my liking!! I have gotten some of the most striking photos by just shooting ramdomly. Your page is great!! I love digiscrapping!! No mess!

Its exactly the same as paper scrapping - there is no rule that one photo on a page is all you are allowed - the main reason this has happened in digital scrapping I believe is simply because we dont have any issues with getting photos processed to print - so we have been able to increase the size of our photos, crop etc to whatever we want - and use just that very best one without hassle or more expense of gettng larger reprints. If you are a paper scrapper then Im sure you are familiar with Becky Higgins Sketch books (Creating Keepsakes) which you can translate to your digital pages.

I print mine in 8x10 usually. I usually pick a color in the photo for the paper color theme to tie them together but if I cant get something close I'll do the photos B&W. A nice way to add more photos to a page is to Use a film strip (usually has 4 photo spots) this way for sure you can get 5 on a page. You can get these film strips in many kits or make your own using the "h" key with this FONT: http://www.dafont.com/wm-drama-1.font (I have a font problem WAY TO ADDICTED!!)
