Question proper way to use external hd

ok, this may sound totally dumb, but exactly how can I pull my elements from my external hd to my scrap page? I just bought a 160G external hd to house my digi stuff, but when I try to copy & paste to my program, it freezes. Is it me or my program? Thanks! I know I need more ram, only have 512, but wanted to check to see if I need to do something different.

I dont know what program you are using, but probably teh easiest way is to use drag and drop.
Open an IE window, browse to your external, select whatever file you want, click on it and hold down teh mouse and drag the file to your programs workspace

Alternatively. chose Open File ( wherever that command is) browse to the drive your external reads at (maybe e? or f?) and select a file that way.

i store all of my photots and such on an external HD... I agree, drag and drop is good. I also right click and "open with XXX program"

if those don't work, i would look into adding memory to your computer.

The freezing is most likely from your RAM, or lack thereof, since you just got your EHD, especially if you are using PS. Graphics programs always take lots of memory.

Make sure to start an organizational system for your scrapping stuff if you haven't already, btw, ESPECIALLY making sure that your folders/indiv elements, depending on how you have them stored, have designer names in them. If you need to, rename your elements/folders yourself so that you know who to credit and how when you are posting pages on the Internet or submitting them to magazines.

HTH!

thanks so much

Thanks everyone! Now I REALLY feel like a dunce, lol. I was trying to drop & drag after I opened the images. I can easily drop & drag from the browser--don't know what I thought I was doing!! I was using psp at the time. Now to try it with pse. I have ordered more ram--gonna max out this computer. Again, many thanks!!
