Good News... The June Ezine has some info on tags that just might be able to help you out. It will be available in the SBB store on June 5th, but you can also pre-order a copy.

Thanks for replying, especially thanks for the tuts...I was reading one of the tuts, could you tell me what the dodge and burn tool is...and if it is in elements 40...I also was noticing on Gina Millers Blog, the bulletin at the top has pins inserted in the pics...I like the way the shadow is applied around the tips....how do I get this effect?

Thanks so much for your time and input...These forums are so helpful thanks to people like yourselves...

Hi Renee, I don't know if elements has dodge and burn but I think they should. They are most often used while using a brush tip that you can change the opacity and hardness.
Dodge will create a lighter shadow if applied correctly and Burn will create a darker shadow, however they are really not shadows, they mimic the traditional photographic darkroom technique of holding back or giving light to produce lighter/darker areas on photos.
It takes a little while to get good with these effects and have your efforts look convincing!!
As far as the little area's on Gina's blog, those almost look like little round brush marks with the hardness turned down and opacity, and then placed under the area where the pin goes into the paper. I could totally be wrong however!!

Elements does have the dodge and burn tools in the main toolbox, and you might want to check the "Elements 4.0 User Guide" to see the different ways they can be used (the book shows mainly how to use them on photos, but it is really helpful in understanding this tool). For digital scrapbooking, they can used be to lighten and darken papers and elements to create a look of depth too. Best thing you can do is play with them to see the effects you get using different brush tips and opacities, then write down your favorite settings (try on light, medium and dark papers).

Just shout if you need some more help with this or any other PSE questions.

Well girls I dont seem to have the user guide so I have no idea how to use this tool..Maybe I can download one on the net (just my luck)...Also what is the difference in the drop shadow tool...(still learning this one) and the burn and dodge tool? I have used the shadows tool to create a realistic look on my layouts, and I thought I could use this on my tags as well...You know, I used the shadows on objects to make them kinda jump off the page...Anyway hope I can find this user guide. I am also working on a lo in which I
am using a tab with the pic, I just kinda tucked it under the picture....do you have any ideas on how to make this look realistic?

Thanks All,
Renee

Hi,
When you have PSE open, go to the last menu on the top called Help, it their you should have an option for Photoshop Help or something like that. That is where the help topics/user guides are. (I am only guessing and looking at my PSCS2 program) then you can type in the word or phrase and do a search for burn and dodge.
You can use drop shadows on your tags and elements, you are not limited to just using burn and dodge to make items pop from your pages.
For your tab underneath your paper edge..I would create a small drop shadow around that side of the paper if that is how your light source would cast a shadow. And then add a corresponding dropshadow to your tab as well.
