Have you ever taught a ds class that someone was unhappy with?

This is a first for me so I am not sure what to do, or how to deal with it. I have taught many ds (digital scrapping)classes, and in my last class someone complainedconfused:. Well this is a first for me. Each of the students receive handouts, and a cd with a very, very large page kit.

She was not happy with the class because I did not offer a live demo on creating a scrapbook page, instead I created several power point slides with each step demonstrated. My laptop crashed so I was using my sisters, and her laptop was much slower than mine, so I thought a power point demonstration would be faster and better.

I have offered to let her take the class again where I will do a live demo, any other suggestions?

Was that her only complaint- that she didn't like the way it was presented? I guess the lessons were ok? Did anyone else complain? It's hard to please everybody and different people prefer different things. Maybe state clearly next time what you'll be doing and how you'll be doing it so there are no misunderstandings. Let her do the live demo class- I would offer that and not a refund. Is that what you're asking?

I think offering to let her take the class again was a very good solution. If she was the only one who complained, my guess would be that she may be someone who will be hard to please. I think you did the right and the only thing that could be done. I know it can be very discouraging. I teach traditional scrapbook classes and i have had people become upset over very silly things. I had one lady drop the class becuse i was 10 years younger than her lol. I have been scrapping for 15 years but what can you do. Good luck and try not to let it get you down. ( i am not the one to talk i let everything get to me heheh )

I used to teach both high school and elementary students and I learned one thing: You can never please everyone! I used to let the complaints bother me, but found out it didn't do any good and just made me miserable. I think your offer to let her take the class again was more than generous.

That was her only complaint, everyone else loved the class. I am letting her do the live demo class, but will not be giving a refund.

That is one of my fears

I have people that are interested here and I've been asked to teach a class. I've asked another IRL friend who also DScraps to help me. I think she's got the same hesitations I do. I fear that people will just be disappointed.

If you've got any pointers on how to go about teaching a class on DSing, I'd love to hear them. I am just not sure how to approach it KNOWING that the few people who are interested will all be at different technical skills and be using different programs.

Yeah, that.

Hope she's happy with the compromise!

Oh wow... this thread sounds really interesting. My LSS approached me about looking for interest in digital classes, but the same things that Stacey (4guysandme) above mentioned I have been wondering about.

Not only is digi-scrapping a learning curve for people, but you need to assume SOME level of computer knowledge. I don't have the time or energy to teach ppl... this is a screen, this is the on button...

If I have to teach them all HOW to use a computer it will be 3 weeks of lessons before I even get to OPEN an image...

Anyone else want to jump in here? How did you approach this?
