I started out very basic, defined digital scrapbooking, types of software used in ds, what to do with you scrapbook pages, etc....I touched some on Digital Camera's, system requirements, etc....I put in about 80 hours of research to create my presentation, but on the plus side I only have to do it once.

I am assuming that all of my students have a pre-requisite of some computer knowledge, printing, etc.... But you know what happens when you assume . This discussion does give me a great idea, I am going to state in my class description that all students should have a pre-requisite knowledge of Windows and printing. This should weed out the people whom have never touched a computer.

I has a large class with 20 people, I could have done more but the classroom size was perfect for 20. I also used a projectos that connects directly to my laptop so everyone can see what I am doing on my computer.

I teach DS as a volunteer in my local area - when the semester course outline came out, I was clear to state the prerequisites of attending the class, which was basic windows knowledge, familiarity with digital photos, and basic knowledge of the software used. Needless to say, I've had participants who enrolled not knowing the software at all, and let's just say not as quick around windows as one might like!

I've had fantastic feedback so far, but I also spent quite a lot of time preparing. I gave them a digital kit to use, course notes, I had slides for the beginning of the class to go through some of the basic theory (what is digital scrapping, dpi, jpg, png, etc.), and finally, I took them through each of the skills a basic DS needs to get started (creating a new doc, adding paper/elements/photos, rotating, resizing, etc.) by taking them through slowly on my laptop that was connected to a data projector. I didn't proceed to the next step until they were all at the same point, so I was up and down out of my chair quite a lot! But it worked well because those that were a bit advanced just pottered around for a bit while waiting.

One last thing I have just recently done is to create a google group just for my DS participants, so that they can get and give support to each other after the class is finished. The feedback I've had from that so far is that they're really pleased that there's a place they can come to get some additional support, as they're not quite ready to jump into a digi-scrap forum yet!

So, basically, if you've had good feedback so far, and only had one negative comment, don't take it to heart, it sounds like you're doing a great job. If you think there's even a tiny bit of truth to the comment, then you can learn from it, otherwise, they're probably just being difficult! My theory is - there's always one!
