Its always tough - I set aside one day a week to go through that entire days comments - generally that is over 500 layouts - It takes me about 5 hours and Im on a DSL connection - that is pretty slow ( though no where near as bad as dial up) I comment on any layout with three comments or less. I don't reciprocate comments very often I must admit but my time is spread very thin so I do what I can - Im more active in the forum to give feedback there. A smaller site will result in more comments on your layouts generally - there is no denying it. I wrote this article
http://scrapbook-bytes.com/cgi-scrip...icle_240.shtml on the reasons why comments were so low. Every so often people get enthused about making comments then it drops off again and DTM 's are constantly discussing ways to improve it - but we cant mandate the community to comment, only encourage. As of this minute there are 52,653 members of SBB - at least half of those are active members - if not more, so there should be more commenting than there is. With CT's for designers being mandated to post in three different galleries i think a lot of people post and run as well. I think 3 comments is a good response for any layout - I have some with less than that and I am second ( excluding elements) in the top poster list. If you want CC then you have to specify it as people will rarely volunteer critical comments not matter how constructive so add "CC please" to your title to attract attention for that.
It is sad not to recieve comments on layouts you have worked so hard on. We are a community - certainly the biggest, helpful ( look at our tutorial pages - the largest collection on the web) and a wonderful source for inspiration given how many look through the gallery - even if they dont comment. Part of being a community is giving as well as recieving - I hope more of the community gives coments when they can, any suggestions for improving commenting would be welcome
