Question a little delima

I have a website related to my genealogy research.

I want to make some of my own backgrounds, but other than simple colored, I can't seem to get it right.

I want, in particular, the kind of background that has the side border. I have a wonderful thumbnail I want to use, but have tried many different ways to make the background with it, to no avail.

Can anyone tell me how I should go about making this background with the picture going down the left side edge? I know it can't be that difficult...ugh!

Thanks!

Laura

are you making it a part of the background itself or are you inserting it into a table on the side on top of the background? Ü

well...

I just wanted to make it part of the background, but wasn't sure how it was 'normally' done.

I see these web pages with pretty side borders and wonder, How the heck did they do that?'

Angry also

I have the problem of when I do make a background with the sidebar picture, and I place it on my web page...I am using frontpage2000; it repeats. I don't want it to repeat. The page will look great, then I see the right edge, and there it starts repeating...ugh.

I know it must have something to do with sizing, but I have no idea what size to make it.

i've done it both ways actually. sometimes part of the bg image, sometimes it's in a table on the side. i usually just make my bg one color and big so i don't have to deal with tiling. probably an easier way though. i just checked my stats and catered to the majority, which was usually 800x600px. or you could go up to 1024x768px so it'll look good for people with huge screens. but i'm no fp expert! i'd recommend looking for a fp yahoo group to join. i'm sure there are plenty and that's usually a great place to learn something specific like that. good luck! What program are you using?

I use PSP 8, and what I do to make the border BG is, I make the width about 1500 px (that is to stop it bleeding and it caters for most resolutions), and the height whatever fits the graphic I am using.
Then to put it in frontpage, I add the background and then insert a table that has two colums and 1 row, the first colum is where the image is and I type nothing in there, I use the 2nd column to place my words or whatever.

I hope this is making sense?? Let me know if you need more help.

Talking thanks

I did manage to figure out the sizing thing. I just wasn't making it big enough.

Yes, I did understand. I have some pages with tables, some without. I just like to experiment, and I am good, in the sense, that I do not like all my pages to look exactly alike. That just seems...BORING. lol

Anyway, thanks again.

Laura

ps--here is one background I just made for my web pages.

Wink oops

Instead of saying 'I am good', I meant to say, I am 'goofy'

Which ever way you look at it, it sounds ridiculous!

Sometimes you are thinking something, and then when you say or type it, it just doesn't sound funny or cute anymore...oh well.
