Question about copyright
I have some birth announcement designs on my website - they're basically scrapped 4x6 pages - someone else just told me I violated her copyright and need to remove them - but I've never even been to her site... can someone help me out here, what are the laws, etc?

Are you using someone else's papers/kits to make the announcements? If so, unless the designer of the papers/elements/kits allows commercial use of her products, that would be a no-no.

I looked at your birth announcements and those are adorable. I would have to guess the same thing as hollyrh. Did you use someone elses papers to design those? There are designers out there that offer copyright purchaces and they are pretty inexpensive.

Yes read your terms on all your digital purchases. Just because you bought them doesn't mean you bought the rights to use them commercially. Not accusing, just making sure you are aware. This goes for any product you create with the digital product, whether it is cards, announcements, or custom scrapbook pages.

No this has nothing to do with the papers - she's claiming that the layout is copyrighted??

that is a different story. If it is indeed an exact copy then she might have grounds, sounds confusing to me!!

The Layout is her's who's kid is in the Layout? or did she mean that you scraplifted her LO?
If that is the case I would assume we had all better stop placing rectangle photo's on a rectangle piece of digital paper...I think every combination has been used by now!! LOL She must be a pretty amazing woman if she thought of that particular placement of elements and photo's, before anyone else did!! Now I am dying to know which one in particular is she saying is her's?You have 3 preview posted with a few under details...I will have to remember not to tilt my photo's!! LOL That is about like someone trying to copyright dots and lines on a digital piece of paper...I would think...who copyrighted the poka dot? Or stripes...can't be done! I can't wait to see what others say.... I could be totally wrong, but I can't image you can copyright placement!
