Question saving to cds

Hi, I'm new to computer scrapbooking and am wondering about saving to cds. I see lots of you do this to have backup copies, etc. Are you using regular cds or cdrws? I thought you could only save once to a cd even if you had lots of space left. For example, if I saved a few things I had done one day and took the cd out of the computer I thought that you could no longer save anything else? Am I wrong or am I misinformed?
Thanks.
Shelli

Boy am I learning lots here!

You can save to a CD until you are out of space. It won't overwrite what you already have on the CD. With rewriteables, you can actual write over the files if you want to replace a file. That is the difference.

Thanks Vivian, that is good to hear. Do I need to do anything before I take out the disk or do I just take it out when done and then put it back in when ready to save more? I use Adaptec Direct CD. I'm sorry if I sound a little slow. I'm not sure why I thought that was the way it was. I'll have to try again.

Shelli, when you go to record make sure 'Finalize Session. Don't Finalize CD' is checked under 'Record Method, Track-At-Once'. This way you can go back and add layouts to it later.
I also suggest you set the write speed at 4x. It's slow, but you will be able to read this CD in most drives later on and will have fewer problems because of it.

OK, I just tried to save something to a cdr that I had previously saved something on and I get this message-
"read only disk. Insert a cd-r/cd-rw and try again". This is why I figured I could only use the cdrws. I'm confused.

I have Easy CD Creator to record my CD's with and have run into that same problem. Generally it's a program glitch and either closing the program or rebooting the computer will take care of it. I Have had the problem for a few days at a time and then it miraculously fixed itself. Weird! LOL!

I would highly recommend staying away from CD-RW's. They corrupt VERY EASY! Plus, the are more expensive.
I use Adaptec to burn my CD's. When you put in a blank CD-R you have to format it (takes a couple of minutes usually) then you are free to burn. When you eject it will ask you to organize it so that it can be read in other drives (closing the session) or keep it open. The choice is yours...I usually leave it open if I know I'll be writing to it again soon. But, even if I do close it, when you re-insert the disc and right-click on the icon you can choose "make writable" which will reopen your session so that you can add to the CD again. You also have the choice to make it so that it can never be written to again. Note: if you leave it open, you can not use that CD in anyone else's drive. Also, if you don't want something on the disk anymore, you can delete it but you won't get the file space back.

With my photos and Scrapbook Pages, I usually don't burn a CD until I have enough to fill a CD (just my personal preference) but I have some CD's with elements, backgrounds, fonts, etc. that I am adding to all of the time.

Hope this was helpful!

OK, I may just be the worlds dumbest person, but I have been using a new CD EVERYTIME I take something to be printed - most of my CD's have like 5-6 layouts on them and that's it! So you are saying that if I just put a CD back into my burner, that it will save my new stuff and not erase the old?????
