It happened... boo hoo

I lost a bunch of scrapbook pages off my hard drive. I probably lost somewhere between 30-50 pages. I'm so upset! It happened in the process of trying to back them up on an external hard drive. I'm really not sure what went wrong but they are gone. I never uploaded them or printed them so I can't even recreate them. I have no idea what is missing or what they looked like.

I want my 2005 books finished and I was sooo close before this happened. I think I'm going to print what I have this weekend and then just try and fill the holes with some quick pages. Then I can just move on to 2006. Later I'll come back and finish redoing the lost pages - right now the idea just depresses me.

I should be happy though... it could have been worse, it could have been the actual pictures I lost. But boy will I do better at backing up my work now! I still can't get the external hard drive to work right.... grrrr.

(((((((((((hugs))))))))))))) Jen- I'm so sorry this happened to you. I'll pray that they mysteriously appear the same way they disappeared. Isn't it ironic that quite often this happens when we're taking precautions to back up our stuff- aaarrrgggggh. Again- so sorry.

I'm so sorry! 30-50 pages is a LOT of wasted time and effort. I hope you can either recreate them or even better, get them back.

I am so so sorry this happened to you.
Are you really sure these pages are "lost?" Did you try to copy your files or move your files? Look in the receycle bin on your primary drive and also in the receycle bin on your external hard drive. Run a thourough search. Sometimes files are "placed" in weired places. They could be on a different drive or stuck somewhere in a temporary folder. Even if they got deleted they should be in a receycle bin (unless you cleared the bin in the meantime.)
It's just so difficult to accept that these pages are gone. I can only imagine how much work you've put into them. I'll keep my fingers crossed and hope the pages will appear again.

I'm SO sorry!! I couldn't imagine. I really hope that they turn up. I would do as Jana suggested and see if they are someplace else on the drive. Maybe try the search feature. I really, really hope they turn up!! Best of Luck!!

Yep, they are totally 100% gone. I'd moved them to the external drive and so then intentionally deleted them from the main computer. Then a little later for some reason the external drive erased itself. I had to have clicked something wrong.. but I have no idea what. So they are gone gone gone.

But at least I have things set up now where hopefully it won't happen again.

I'm so sorry this happened to you! I hope they reappear as mysterious as they disappear. I would replace that external hard drive. That's exactly what happened to me last year. The HD was less than 6 months old and I couldn't find all my files. Some I was able to save and others gave me an error message that the file was corrupt.

Jennifer, so sorry this has happened. I was told by a computer expert once that if you "delete" a file, it's not really deleted at all. Just the directory name on your computer for that file has been deleted, and if you haven't done a lot of stuff since then to be saved over the area where the file was, it may be recoverable. Now, how exactly this is done, I don't know. I think you have to get some sort of special software to do it. I'd search Google for recovering deleted files and see if there's anything affordable that might be worth trying.
