printing layouts with walmart photocenter

I'm trying to upload my layouts (12X12 resized to 8X8) with Walmart photo center so I can get them printed there. But when I go to print preview them the edge is always cut off. Can I do this with Walmart Photo center?
Thanks

Are you putting an 8x8 lo on an 8x10 canvas? kwim?--resize your lo to an 8x8 then extend the canvas size to 8x10 so that there is 2 inches of white space on the bottom. There are hardly any printing places (none that are competitively priced) that will actually print out a square page. Until then, we digiscrappers have to go the extra step... hope this helps!

Hey, you're doing better than I am. Every time I try to upload any photo to wal-mart, it just sits there. Kinda bummed me out since they have that 10 free pics promo on their website.

I also want to try printing 8x8 with walmart (i guess from a cd since I can't get the site to work ). Let us know if your LOs come out ok.

I print 8x8's and 4x6 at walmart and figured out the following:

When printing 8x8 I had to resized the image to 99% then place it on a canvas of 8x10 ( I type in the white space the size for example 8x8 printed as 8x10

Sometimes I work in 4x4 (because my computer is slow) but then print in 8x8. For those I resize to 99% and place them on a canvas of 8x10 and type 4x4, printed as 8x8 on 8x10
I don't seem to loose any resolution by printing them this way, unless I start with a really bad photo.

When printing a 4x6 I resize to 98% then put it on a 4x6 canvas.

But I have found that the Kodak Picture maker needs a larger % change and then the canvas size to work.
I think it all depends on the actually computer in the store.

For a while I was taking a 8x6 layout, cutting it in half and printing 2 4x6's, and my layout would come out 2 different colors. I asked several times about the computer automatically color correcting, but actually messing 1 up. I was told their computer didn't do that, but they couldn't explain the differences in my photo's after I explained how I created them. Now (within the last month) there is a new box that is checked automatically that say's "Enhance Photo's". I uncheck that box and my layouts started coming out the right colors again!

Ok, I got my 12x12-resized-to-8x8-dropped-on-an-8x10-canvas LO back today and it came out AWFUL! It looks like the resolution is wrong. It reminds me of a photo copied and saved off the Internet and then printed. The size is right; I have two inches of white space at the bottom of my LO, but the LO is really dark. I asked the girl working at the photo counter why it came out so poorly if I created and saved at 300 dpi. She looked at me like I was from the moon, so I figured she had no idea what I was talking about. She said, "Maybe you should set it higher."

I'm going to re-read Maryanne's post. Maybe I'll try her suggestion and see what happens.

Kristy, since you're having trouble uploading your layout to the Walmart website it could be too big (too many mbs). They do have a size limit.

I just ordered 2 layouts as 8X10's so I'll let you know if they come out ok. I'm hoping they will work because it's way cheaper to order them online than it is to use their instore machine.

I learned the hard way that you have to place the layout on an 8x10 canvas. Luckily Wal-Mart gave me my money back for the 40+ LOs I printed that came out wrong. But anyway, it sounds like you've already figured out the sizing trick. I re-orded maybe 20+ from them at the right size, and they came back great. If your LO is printed poorly, you should be able to get your money back. A 300dpi layout should print clearly.

Once again why I print at home... Not to knock those who are hired at Wal-Mart who do know what they are talking about. It's just frustrating to try and talk shop with some at those places when maybe they are more suited to talk shop about Claire's Boutique or the like. Don't worry though ladies it's the same for men and women... Mom and pop hardware stores where all employees know where the items are as well as how to use them have also gone by the wayside. Sad but true.
