Size for saving PNG files?

Does it really matter if I save a file 6x6 verses 12x12 in png? It's not loosing dpi's is it? It would seem if I save the files smaller, they'd take up less space, but not loose the quality. Correct?

Are you talking about saving a completed LO as a .png?
Normally .png format is used because it retains the transparent background in a image such as a element/ribbon/alpha/doodle/overlay.

Hopefully someone whoknows this for sure will answer but, I believe that any time you downsize a LO from 12" to 6" and save as a 6x6. You are going to loose quality if you want
again later enlarge that image back to a 12x12 image for printing...

Not saving a laytout, but papers I've made. So as you resize up, you do loose dpi quality for printing?

papers or overlays? Not sure if I understand your question totally but papers are jpegs and can be compressed a bit without losing quality (filesize)

As for the PNG file, creating it at 6 inch then resizing to a 12" may lose some quality = become pixelated,
however if it was created at 11 and resized to a 12" it probably wouldn't make a world of difference
I believe the same would apply to JPEG files

I've been creating my papers (not overlays) and saving them as png vs jpg, is this wrong? I've downloaded kits that have had the papers both ways. As I've been saving the papers I've created, I've sized them down to 6x6 as opposed to 12x12. Mainly to save space on my hard drive. As I create my layouts with these papers, I don't have any problems adjusting size, but I've yet to print one. So I was just trying to figure out if you loose pixel quality by saving them smaller.

Papers are always JPEG, they do not require any transparent areas
mats, ribbon, overlays, bows.. etc are PNG
Yes resizing from a 6x6 to a 12x12 will lose quality.
You can always make a paper smaller without losing quality but not bigger.
HTH!
