Question Purchasing Printer ???

Hello,
I am a true Newbie - I just discovered Digital Scrapbooking only a week ago. I would like to work on getting a printer. Either gettting now an Epson Stylus Photo R220 or waiting until later into 2006 and save up for an Epson Stylus Photo1800.

Can the R220 print really good photos even without the extra black and glossy cartraiges? I'm also looking for a source for the papers that you print on to put in albums. This will be a Christmas present if I get the R220 now.

What do you all think?

I recently replaced my HP Deskjet 5550 photo printer with the Epsonstylus Photo R200.

I absolutely love it. Much easier to use than the HP, Consistent print quality and much more user friendly. Six separate ink cartridges sounds expensive but I have found them much more economical than the teensy HP ones. They last a long time for me and I do print a lot of photos and pages. Never actually counted how many - need to for future reference.

I print my layouts at 8 x 8 at home as I personally don't like my digi pages at 12 x 12 - they somehow look too big, so I make my paper ones 12 x 12 and my digi ones 8 x 8 or less (sometimes put them in paperbag books).

HTH,
Jules

I'm wondering if the R200 has the "archival" inks. I know that the R800 and R1800 do. Printing photos is absolutely new to me, but would prefer to have the archival quality to begin with.

The R200 and R220 use different ink than the R800 and R1800. R800/R1800 is labeled archival ink which indicates a longer fade resistance life than the ink used in the R200/R220. However, the fade resistance life of the ink used in the R200/R220 is longer than any other printer's ink and longer than lab printed photos.

The quality is outstanding with the R200/R220.

I have the R220 and am very happy with it. I had HP before (twice) and the product itself gave me problems and their customer service is horrible. I have not attempted to print my pages on my R220 (8x8) because I feel that it might be cheaper all the way around to have them printed at Office Max (like $1.17 a page). I don't know how to go about figuring if it's more cost effective to print on my own because I print other stuff other than layouts. So how much ink is actually going towards my layouts?? However, I may decide to quit printing and stick with completely digital and start doing slide shows on disc instead.
