Ubuildabook-Update #2

As I posted a few weeks ago, I wasn't happy with the quality of the book I ordered from Ubuildabook. I sent it back to be re-printed (at no additional cost) and am a bit happier, but not thrilled.
To recap: I ordered a 70-page (35 pages printed on both sides) hardcover book (size 9X9), printed on glossy paper. One LO was "tilted" so that there was white space at the top of the page and it was cut off a bit on the bottom. They fixed that page, but they said there was nothing they could do about what I saw as a very obvious reddish or yellowish color cast to most if not all the pages. They claimed not to see anything wrong (as did my husband and a photographer friend, but several other people I showed it to agreed with me).
I think the problem is they're printing on thin paper, so the images are not as crisp as they could be and the color is slightly off. On the other hand, it was incredibly inexpensive compared to the alternatives ($48). Anyone who has looked at it without ever having seen the LOs on my computer thinks it looks great, so maybe I'm just being too picky.
Maybe when I win the lottery I'll have it reprinted somewhere else. Sigh.

Thanks for the update, Holly. I was thinking about Ubuildabook and appreciate hearing your experience.

Now, on another note, can you tell us about the feedback you got from your article? (I think this question means I'm hijacking your thread, but I figured it's convenient to ask).

Hi Kathryn!
I think the article was well received... from what I've read on the forums here and elsewhere. Oddly enough, I didn't see it in many of the local papers here (New Hampshire) but I think it got used pretty widely elsewhere and on Web sites. And of course I'm starting to get pitches from companies trying to promote quasi-related products, including a company that makes software that does nothing but let you cut someone's head out of a picture and put it on another body. (the company apparently was started to put people's heads on bikini-clad women). But I don't think I'll be writing about that....

Holly

P.S. I'd love to see a hard copy if anyone saw the story in their local paper and would be willing to part with it!

OMG, Holly, I'm laughing so hard. I got the same pitch from the company with the software for putting heads on other bodies. (They probably had seem my digital scrapbooking article from a year-and-a-half ago, written as I was just getting into it).

Darn, if I'd known you needed a hard copy, I would've picked up a copy of the North County Times, which carried the article. I'll check around the office today to see if anyone in our North County bureau can scrounge up a back copy.
