WAAAH! Canon 300D Died!

I've had the camera for less than 3 years and I didn't get the extended warranty! The camera won't turn on. I thought it was only the battery but now that I've recharged it, its still dead! I'm recharging my back up battery now, I'm hoping it's just my battery.

I'm thankful that this didn't happen while I was on vacation....maybe I'll stop by the camera store to try one of their batteries before I ship off to 500 miles to get an estimate for the repair.

WAAAAAAAAH! Thanks for let me vent!

OH NO!! YIKES! I certainly hope it's something as simple as a battery issue! Keep us posted!

Yeah.. let us know. Sometimes the memory card might not be in the slot correctly.. some cameras will not turn on unless there is a memory card inserted. Good Luck!

Thank you, Jodi & Pesto126.

I tried to insert a different flash card and no luck. My neighbor's camcorder uses the same battery and it worked on his camcorder.

I guess I'll be shipping the Rebel to South CA. I hope it doesn't cost more than the $100 that the extended warranty would have cost me.

bummer.. well good luck. Perhaps you could try a local dealer that is authorized for canon first? Might save you on the shipping and cost if they can correct locally... Good Luck!

Got my camera back today. The fuse was replaced....did a search on fuses and I found that it is not an uncommon problem.

Now I'm searching to find out how to change a fuse on my camera. My manual definitely doesn't have any specs...

It was $180 + shipping. I spent a little time searching the web and found someone was able to get their 3 year old 300D repaired by Canon for free. I can't tell you how many people I talked to at Canon and they would not warranty it.

I think the fuses died because of the battery. When I was trying to diagnose my problem I had recharged 2 batteries. Last night when I tried to insert one of those battery into camera, it wouldn't come on. Immediately, I thought the worst that they didn't fix the camera properly and I was going to have ship it back but when I insert the 2nd battery it started up. So I think that 1st battery must have discharged into the camera and fried the fuse.

Anyway, this weekend, I want to do continue trying to search for specs/diagram on doing this fuse change myself. I changed the fuse on my car and house before, I'm hoping it can't be more complicated than that....
