Scraplifting?

I'm confused, is scraplifting a good idea or one to be discouraged? When my "innner designer" is out to lunch it DOES get the creative juices going... what's the popular opinion on it?

Hugs,

Christina

Hi,
No scraplifting is a accepted idea and one that is used even in the crops here at SBB.
The only thing to remember is, it is very nice and important to thank and aknowledge the person you scraplifted from!!

scraplifting creates connection... i believe... I see how much we all really have in common in our lives... and beauty is beauty.... and as stated above... it's good to give credit... not only because it is the right thing to do, but it encourages the original artist, and other people can learn more by going back to that LO.

SCraplifting is encouraged for those dry spells, the only thing that is discouraged is submitting them for publication

Ok, so what is the exact definition of "scraplifting"?

Is it scraplifting if you original start out by using someone else's LO, but then do so much tweakage that the end result looks nothing like the original? Or is it when you pretty much use the basic ideas to produce a similar looking LO?

YES Scraplifts away!!! it helps when you're in the creative slumps and can help you learn new styles -- BUT you ALWAYS have to credit the design/layout or whatever to the original artist. And, its always appreciated if you write the original artist to say you lifted them. Whereever possible, include a link to the original lo. Oh, and like kim said, do not submit scraplifted lo's to contests or for publication.

ok, i think i get it... for example, if the original LO had a square, i saw it, i liked it, decided to scraplift... however, my end result was a circle. i should still give credit to the original designer and let them know their LO was the source of my inspiration???

Oh, and one more thing.....LOL

In the case of my above example (see previous post), would that mean i couldn't submit it for publication, even if the original LO and my LO had nothing in common?

It seems to me that there is a very very fine line between what is considered "scraplifting" and what is considered "inspiration"...

please please correct me if I'm wrong... i am a very very ethical person, but I just need to know the rules, i guess... that way i don't cross any boundaries w/ out realizing that i'm crossing them..kwim?

thanks!
