Angry Argh! I am so irritated at my EHD!

I was using my EHD like normal (I've had it for about three months or so) and then suddenly my computer couldn't find it. I took it to my DH's desktop and it couldn't find it. So I waited patiently (yah right) until he got home from work last night to see if he could figure it out (he's an unpaid computer geek). Well he figured it out....my EHD had "lost" its formatting (he said that a bad sector probably cropped up in the formatting region and had corrupted it-chances are like winning the lottery-lucky me)! So we went to the website for it and it listed losing its formatting is not covered under the warranty if the stupid thing still is spinning/"working" according to their test. Well since I had just backed up the important stuff off it the other day onto DH's desktop (thank GOD!) I really didn't think we could afford to pay $50 (half the price of the EHD) to recover the data just to keep my organizer info. So the 2+weeks of organizing all my scrapbooking stuff with my PSE organizer tag system is gone. And dummy me saved the backup of it onto my EHD instead of the internal one (why I don't know) so I am really starting from the beginning!

Can anyone say "arghhhhhhhhhhh" with me! Just had to vent to people who really understand what I'm going through!

DH (paid computer guy) and I were reading this, and wanted to clarify... Is it just the backup of your organizer data on the EHD that you lost? Backup usually means that the original is someplace else? Are you sure that it was your only copy?

I do know how it feels when you lose a HD. We backed up what ever files we could rescue from the kids' computer to DH's computer when the HD started sounding funny. The "killer" happened about a week later when DH's HD failed with only a 10 second warning! How's that for unlucky?

Hmmm you are right the info is there (maybe that's why I put it on the EHD). But now the files are not there (after reformatting). I wonder is there a way to reinstall the kits and stuff back on the EHD and then have the Organizer find them again, just in case I don't get them in the EXACT same location (subfolder of folder etc). I guess I will see what happens first with the reloading of the kits. Thanks for the good news Arti, we are just both so tired and sick with a bad cold so its nice to have some good news!

I'm so sorry about your EHD, That is exactly what happen to me with IOGEAR. I should have stuck with Western Digital. Thanks for telling me why it could read the files anymore.

Arghhhhhhhhhhh!

I could be dreaming, but wasn't there a command in the organizer that would "find" the changed location of the files? Not sure as I stopped using that organizer myself, but I thought i read something about it in "setting up the catalogs" help info. might be worth checking into to save you many hours of re-entering stuff. Good Luck (and hope you feel better soon).
