Unhappy I Made A Mess With Downloads - Please Help

I am getting frustrated. I thought I was doing ok....now I have a lot of double downloads.
I am using Picture It - which I don't think matters because I can either go under my documents or my pictures. I am just learning PSE.

I can't seem to download kits, etc...with some organization
I can unzip and open...
then I end up with a zip folder and an open folder in my file, I can't get rid of the zip folder
I don't know how to get them organized

I worked on it yesterday and I am going in circles

I know it shouldn't be that hard - I just don't have the sequence down.

I save the downloads to a file say: SCRAPBOOK-BYTES
I can get them into there, but when I start unzipping Oh My!
I just make a mess.

This may not sound real clear - but if you can help I really really would appreciate it.

Here's how I do it: Like you, I save the zip files that I download to a folder (I call mine "zip files."

Then, when I go to extract, or unzip, the zipped files, in the little dialogue box, it allows me to change where they unzip to. I use that dialogue box to create a new folder. I usually name the folder based on the designer and the kit name: Jen Wilson_myplayroom.

Then, to delete the old zip file, I use Windows Explorer to go back to my folder with the zip files, and I delete that unnecessary zip file.

Is that what you're looking for, butterfly?

thank you Kathryn i will try again
what was happening is when i deleted the zip the opened file went with it even though they were two files
maybe the second step has to be run from the beginning - wrote it down and i am going to give it a try now
thank you

Butterfly,

Everything I have is divided up into folders. I have a main folder for SBB team kits from the store, then separate folders under that for each kit. I do the same with other designers for whom I have multiple kits. I keep everything separated by designer, not by Web site.

You have to decide where you want to download these files. You are in control of where they download and where they open. Set up a new folder and call it whatever you want but you have to remember that you are downloading to that folder. You must know the path to the folder. After you download, don't open your unzip or unrar app separately and go through all of that. Just right click on the zip or rar file and select unzip or unrar to ... the name of the zip/rar folder. Then you will always have the zip/rar file and the open one in one main folder. The unzipped folder will have the same name as the zip file. I then delete the zip after I open it.
