I personally keep MOST of my zips in folders named for the site where I downloaded from: SBB, DSP, Scrapartist and the like. BUT, if I start to have a bunch of stuff by a certain designer, especially if I use it a lot, then I'll give each designer their own folder, like Kathryn has her very own folder. Shabby Princess has her own, so does Mo and several others.

I also try to condense as much as possible. Some kits will give you 3 or 4 downloads for one kit to keep the files smaller. I usually just end up putting everything in one folder, makes it easier on ME. Or if the alpha is all single files, I may have the alpha in a folder inside the folder for the kit, KWIM? I know, clear as mud. You just have to figure out what works best for you. And what works best today may not work at all for you a few months from now.

Sounds like you and I organize our kits pretty much the same, Amy. I do the same thing with my folders - everything from a kit, no matter how many zip files, goes into one folder, except if there's an alphabet with individual files for each letter, then that gets its own folder within the folder.

I put all my downloaded zip files into one 'kits' folder. Then after I have unzipped them, I put the zip file into a 'done zipkits' folder & every week or so I copy them onto a disk (in case my computer decides to take a dive, i still have them.)
I put all the elements of a kit into one folder, named for the kit/designer & it goes into Mydocs/scrapbooking/kits/*sitefolder*. I have the same set up for elements & stand alone alphabets. I also have a folder that just has kit preview .jpgs so I can see in one place what I have to work with. I've had to create some of them myself for kits that didn't come with them but that's fun.

The whole scrapbooking folder is due to move to an external hard drive (my xmas present). because I am deeply suspicious of my computer & quite paranoid about losing things.

Butterfly it actually sound sas if you are just opening the zip file, not extracting it if when you delete the zip file the other file get deleted too.
Check this tutorial on unzipping: http://scrapbook-bytes.com/cgi-scrip...icle_133.shtml

And here is great information on organising.

If you have Picture It and have the premium version you will have teh Library which is great for organisation ..check out this tutorial here: http://scrapbook-bytes.com/cgi-scrip...icle_289.shtml

Thank you everyone!! I kept at it, a few snags, but now I have the hang of getting the kits organized. I wasn't utilizing my c drive, hence, in documents I kept losing everything. I really appreciate all of your support now I am able to have my folders in order - the SBB and folders following. Also, I can actually delete the zips!! -
without losing everything.

Wanted to let you know how much you all have helped me, I am very thankful for the information, a lot of work ahead, but now I can start to enjoy scrapping again!!!!

See you in the chat room!

I would also like to thank you for pointing out the tutorials. I was on here the other day looking for them. Saw them a while ago and thought - how helpful. Then I couldn't find them...duh-there is a label for them at the top. Don't know why I didn't see it. I must have been having a blonde moment-hour-day!!!

From what I've read and experieneced, it isn't a good idea to have lots of extra folders in the My Pictures folder. It seems to slow down the computer. It's better to have the extra folders in My Documents instead.

You are exactly right! Slow and because of my inexperience a mess.
Love all the info from all of you.
So now my pictures are limited to temp projects.
Saving everything on my c drive in folders.
Is there a difference between c drive and c drive/my documents space?
I haven't figured that one out yet.
I was told because documents is in my c drive it is better to go directly to my
c drive. That is where I have tons of space.
Wondering if my documents is smaller than the c drive.
Thank you for your help.
