Question about brushes

Hi,

I'm fairly new to digi scrapping. I use PS. I've learned about layers and some other stuff but I don't know anything about brushes. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions/info they might share with me...how do you use brushes when making your LOs etc. I don't even know where to start with them but I'd really like to learn.

Sorry if this is the wrong forum to ask the question...I haven't posted before and I wasn't sure.

Thanks so much in advance!

Laura

This isn't the wrong forum but you might want to repost this question under Adobe Photoshop. That way, it is more likely to come to the attention of the people who use PS. There are a lot of tutorials on Google about this and I am sure people will post their favourites. Don't forget to check out the manual that comes with PS or their online help. Not always good but sometimes it is a nice place to start to get the basics.

To answer your main question, I use them in three different ways:

1. As a "stamp". A really big pretty brush can be clicked once on a layer and it looks like you either painted it on or stamped or stenciled it.

2. To add texture. You can take a solid colour and use different brushes at different sizes and colours to add a three dimensional look by making the colour appear "grunged" or "inked" or "sanded" or "woven" or whatever your imagination kicks up!

3. To help blend. Using different brushes in different ways can help get a "montage" or "collage" effect by softening the edges of images so that they blend and merge into one another. Usually if I am blending I am using a layer mask.

As Kim mentioned, you are likely to get more answers in the Photoshop forum. There is already one stickied thread there abt brushes, and if you do a search in the forums here with the word 'brush,' you will other past threads where people have posted the same type of question abt brushes.

HTH!
