Question HELP! Big time beginner here.....

I absolutely love the idea of digital scrapping......now it's just the ability to LEARN to do it! But - I do have a really basic layout right now. I am getting the hang of it. My question.....and I am hoping it's a REALLY easy answer.....HOW do you rotate a picture in Photo Shop???? Am I just NOT getting it? I select the pic I want to rotate, just to a slight angle, then I choose Image>rotate canvas. Is this not right? What I end up with is the pic being rotated but with this big white area behind it! Can anyone help me?

Thanks!

PS - the scrap kits here are just awesome! And I am envious of the layouts in the gallery.....I can only hope to get that good someday!

EDIT>IMAGE>ROTATE than you can either enter the amont that you want it to rotate or (easier way) put your curser over the corner till the arrow tuns into the doublecurved arrow and rotate . you can find some great tutorials here at SBB's for photoshop too! welcome to digital scrapbooking!

You want to rotate only the object (the picture) and not the background (the canvas). Just think of putting a picture on a piece of paper. All you want to do is move the picture while keeping the paper the same. Assuming you have the picture on a separate layer, select that layer and go to Edit, Transform (or use Ctrl-T as a shortcut). On the tool options menu at the top you will see lots of choices. The one with a triangular icon is angle--if you enter a number in here (positive or negative), it will rotate the picture. Press the checkmark over on the right once you are happy with the new angle. If you prefer to eyeball it, selecting the move tool on the tool options (Shortcut is ShiftV or V if you elect not to have to use shift!) will bring up a marked "box" around your photo. If you move your cursor near a corner, it will change shape into a semi-circle with two arrows. You can then nudge the photo any way you want it. Hope that helps.

Another way you can do it is to select the image in the Layers box and choose Edit - Tranform - Rotate. When the box appears around it, place your curser near the corner and it will look like a curved arrow, then rotate from there. rotating the canvas will cause your actual workspace to rotate.

I agree with the Crtl + T. It's the easiest and most used. You can go Edit>Transform and the shortcut is Ctrl + T. Put your cursor by the corner and you will see the curved arrow, click, hold down the button and rotate.
