HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!

I have sought out help with regards to photo cropping/resizing etc. I checked out the tutorials that have been suggested but I am still having SUPER problems and am starting to feel like a class A moron! I like to use PSP 9 but I also have PSE. When in PSP, I hone no problems browsing for a photo and then dragging it onto my layout. When I try to crop it in the LO however, it turns out to be this huge size. So then I try to edit my photo before I even begin my layout (hoping to click & drag the pre-sized photo into the LO). So, I crop and check to see if I have the image resized the way I want it, and I think it looks right. But, when I drag it into my LO, it is this itty-bitty little pic. Somebody please take pity on me and help!

Completely Confused.....

Aimee

Hello, boy can I relate!!
The problem you are having getting photo's to be the right size in your LO's has to do with your LO which is hopefully 200-300ppi (Pixels Per Inch)
And chances are your photo image is something around 72 ppi.
This basically means that your photo has a lot less pixels then your LO, so the two images in pixel sizes are way off.
To see what true size your photo or LO is going to be by itself use, Image>Image Information or Shift+I. The dimension you see in there is what size this would print.
The size you see your image on your computer screen is very iffy...it all depends on what you have your screen resolution set to. You can not go by the rulers on the top of your image if you have them on. if you view at 100% and it is 72ppi your ruler will go way out of what we know an inch to be...
I am going to go try a good tut that explained it to me!!

OOH! I think that the PPI may be a big part of the problem. I completely forgot that when I get them from my media stick, they are at 72. I practiced a couple of crops and then resized to 300 ppi. It seemed to work a little better. Is this what I am supposed to do? I'm assuming since I'm doing my LO at 300 ppi, I want my photo at that resolution as well. Also, after I start editing my photo, is it best to save it as a tiff file? I'll keep fiddling around with it....thank you SO much.

Aimee

Any tutorials you find will still be greatly appreciated

Sorry kids started happening around here and I forgot about your question!!

But yes you can save them as .tiff's OR you can save a copy of them in the .psp file format and that will preserve their quality also while you are playing with them!!
As you probably know, do not mess around to much fixing and changing your .jpg files.
Here is a link to a well writing article for resizing and how it should be done..
http://www.photo.net/learn/resize/

You say they come from your memory stick at 72ppi/resolution.

Under file in PSP9 click on your General preferences and then the Units tab:
Read the Default Resolution on the right side and change that number to 200 or so.
Just possibly your camera is not bringing your photos value into the PSP9 program???
Depending on how old your camera is....? I know that my older camera did not have this ability!!!
hope this helps a little.
