Ok, so how many of you are using Sharpie's to label your CD's?

I'm asking because I heard it wasn't good for the CD, that it would leak through and make it unreadable after a while. I have read this on a few different sites and I was wondering what you all thought. How valid is this? I've started using cases now and just use a piece of paper to write what's on the CD (you can imagine how lovely that looks!) CD's that I don't have a case for, I just write really teeny tiny with my Sharpie and pray nothing happens

I've heard of CD labels but don't know much about them.....

Tell me what you think about this whole Sharpie thing.

yes I have used sharpies and haven't had problems yet BUT I've also used labels and those are great BUT BUT the end all - be all of labels for your cd's IS.. drum roll.. the printable CD's. I don't have the printer(s) (Espon makes them) that can do it.. but WOW.. they look great!! Having SBB do my that go out look sweet imho. I know the local office store here prints them too for ya if you want for like $5.00

I do- if it is NOT something I am archiving. I bought a special marker at my local photo store that is specailly made for marking CDs and I make sure to use it if I am burning pics or layouts for long term storage.

I have used sharpies in past when I first started burning on my 2x burner (just to date how LONG ago that was!) I don't use sharpies anymore though.
I do exactly like Becki said and I bought a special marker but mine says ' touch this PEN and you are DEAD' .

I use a Sharpie to write on my CDs. It's not so much the ink, as if you "scratch" the CD while you're writing on it that will cause a problem. I was also told (by the archivist at Arizona State University) that those printed labels (the kind you do with the printer) can cause a problem, too. They archive all kinds of data. They say that there is NOTHING that won't cause a problem of some kind in the long run. They recommend you put the CD in a case and label the case. Ugly, but they say that's what works the best. I guess it all depends on how long you plan to keep them.
