Unhappy Need some ideas...

Hi.

I'm not sure this is the best place to post this, but here goes...

I am really struggling with this LO. Usually I will just let it sit and then come back to it, but I thought I'd find out if anyone had some ideas about what could help...

I created the wood background because the guitars are known for their wood, so I'd like to keep that part.

This set of pages is of a visit we took to Martin Guitars (highly recommended tour, BTW).

Questions:
- What kind of embellishing can I do on such a busy background (ie, the wood)? especially one that I want to show through?
- How can I deal with 6 pix, all of them landscape format and none of them calling out to me to enlarge, and not have it be so BORING?

I am not a very experienced scrapper, so any input would be welcome.

And if I'm in the wrong place... Let me know! I'm not proud. ;-)

Thanks in advance.

Have you checked out the April 2005 Element Team Kit "Music" in the Digital Bytes store? There are some great embellishments there (such as guitar picks) that would really look nice against that beautiful wood background you created. (NICE work, btw! <smile>) I think you've got a good start on a really unique layout here. I look forward to seeing the end results!

I am not very good with layouts that have more than a couple of pictures so when I have to do them, I go to Scrap Maps (just google to get there) and the person there has different size layouts (ie 12 x 12 with more than 5 photos). You might want to see if any of them really catch your eye or spark an idea.

I'd suggest not having the whole background as the wood effect -- it'll be much more effective used as an accent. Maybe a strip of 1/3 the width of each page down the outside edge?

As an exercise, try picking a couple of different sketch inspirations and to a rough layout based on them even if you don't think it will work -- it'll probably spark some ideas.

And play around with titling and journalling -- if this was such a great tour then you must have something to say about it!

Their website (http://www.martinguitar.com) might also give you some design ideas.

Wow, these are all great suggestions. I do think that there could be less wood on the page, and I will definitely check out the Scrap Mats site and the April 2005 kit.

Thanks for all your ideas! I will repost when I get it all together...

I Googled for Scrap Mats and didn't find a site that matched what you were describing. If you find the URL, could you post it?

Thanks!
