Question Resizing Pictures

Hi everyone,
I'm new to this wonderful world of digital. I was wondering if I open a new file at 8.5x11 and 300dpi, do I need to resize my picture to 300dpi to put on my layout? Or does the new file @ 300 dpi take care of all my elements and photo's. I've had some trouble with pixelated pictures and I thought I was resizing them to many times?? Thanks for your help Oh also does anyone know how to change text color in psp9? thanks again.

When you create a new document a 300 dpi and then bring in a photo, it will automatically be put in at 300 dpi. The photo may appear much smaller than you thought it would be depending on your cameras resolution or the resolution you scanned the photo at. If you enlarge a photo too much you'll see it get pixelated or its quality will generally degrade (odd artifacts etc). I try not to enlarge my photos too much do to this issue.

Sorry I'm not sure about changing text colors in PSP. I don't use that program. In other programs there's a little color swatch that appears when you open the text tool. If you change the color in this swatch, the text color changes. That's really general info but maybe it will help.

Changing text colors in PSP:

Make sure you have the materials palette open before you do this. To open the materials palette, go to View>Palettes>Materials. This will open up a box on your screen with colors.

Then click on the text tool to open up the text box. Writer your text. Then, making sure you text is highlighting, go to the materials palette. There will be two boxes on the bottom of the materials palette. The bottom is the background and fill properties box and the top is the foreground and stroke properties box. Click on the bottom box - the background and fill properties box. A new box will open on the screen. Choose your color here. Click OK to close it.

Now let's look at the foreground and stroke properties box. Usually, I type my text with no background and stroke properties. I have the little O with the / going through it clicked. But if you want to outline your letters in another color, then click the round black circle and choose a color for your outline. At the top of the screen, you can change how thick the outline is by changing the size of the stroke width.

Hope this helps.
