Question about storing kits on ext. hard drive

Now that I have collected quite a few kits, my plan was to store them on a portable external HD and use them on both my desktop and laptop as needed. I transferred the files from my c drive to my new external HD,downloaded Picasa 2 onto the ext HD too, and sorted and labeled the kits. Okay at this point, ext. HD is hooked up to the desktop via the USB. Next I unhook it and attach it to the laptop and voila! The kits are there but all the labels are not. Is there a way to keep the labels attached and not have Picasa act like all the files are new when I change the ext. from one computer to another? Hope that is clear, any guidance would be appreciated!

Lightbulb

Are your drives being recognized as a different drive letter from one hook up from PC to the secondary source? Ie: is it drive G on the PC and then Drive E on the second source?

Yes Amy, I just checked and on the PC the ext. HD is showing up as "F" drive and on the laptop is is designated as "E" Is that causing the problem?

Yep - b/c think of it like a path....

Picasa > Element thumbnail > Hard drive F to find it

But when you move it to another location and then pull up the same Picasa database to find them on that drive - it's still trying to findn Drive F as above when the drive changed to E; THEREFORE... it thinks there is nothing there to find or just can't find it.

Here is a link on how to change the letter of a hardrive... if you can get them to both "act" as the same drive... (the one that works right now so you don't have to redo your Picasa); that should work for ya
