Im so Sad... Lost Everything

OMY The past few days have been a nightmare... I dont post on here too much but I love reading everyones post and getting insperation from all of you... I just need some fellow Scrappers to talk with... Im so hurt..

I have a laptop and I it was not linked to a serge protector and we had a blow on our power line.. well it fried my hard drive... I could not even turn on my computer... I had it taken into the computer shop to see if they could salvage it and they could not Im so hurt.. EVERYTHING is lost... I have a new laptop now.. and its great.. But I have lost everything.. All my layouts... all my elements and papers.. Everything is gone... I do save my LO's to a dvd onces i get enought to fill one.. But I had about 15 or so on the computer that were not saved... Im so hurt... Luckly they are all printed out.. But I love having the origional copy to just have... Now I have to rebuy all of my kits that I purchased... And my DH is upset about that, We just cant afford to get all those kits back yet...... I just need someone to talk to .. has this happened to anyone else... Am I such a looser to not protect myself... Any Ideas on how to prevent this from happening??

Thanks For anyone who read this whole thing...

Amber

before rebuying, contact the stores you purchased from - most of them will have records of what you have purchased and I would think most of them would be able to send you links to redownload what you have purchased - I know I would at my store! Hang in there!

Oh Amber, I am so sorry that happened to you. I would definitely check on the sellers website to see if you can download again. Sending you a hug!

Back up, back up, back up. Burn to CD's and back up on an additional external hard drive that you will only connect to your computer and to power during the back-up process. Then disconnect it from the computer and from power to protect your back-up hard drive from power surges, viruses, etc. Then burn to CD's to protect yourself from hard drive crashes.

I am really really sorry for what happened to you. It's not much comfort, but at least you have the print-outs.

MY DH is a computer guy...

so I know your pain all to well !!!

we had a HD crash and burn, and believe it or not - he was able to freeze the HD in the freezer, to get it working long enough to do a data recovery, and save a lot of our info. It was an 80GB hd and we (SHAME on US!!! - cause we KNOW better!!!) hadn't backed it up in about 3 months. I was sick to my stomach the whole 4 days he worked on it.

But he's really pretty knowledgeable about computers & data recovery for that not being his expertise. It's a good things he has some great computer buddies that taught him well in the past. We lost about 15% of the data cause it was in the corrupted cell(not sure that's what he called it) of the HD.

But I totally would die if I lost 15 LO's I feel so bad for you. One tip for all you ladies, if it ever does happen to you, don't try to reboot the computer at all and go to an Expert!!! it may cost you a lot, but if it's really important they can get it back, sometimes... but if you turn it one once or twice, you're usually totally out of luck.

Fran has a great point too... I'm sure a lot of the stores you purchased from would most likely let you dl it again if they still have the records. GOOD Luck with getting your kits back!!
Blessings!

Oh Amber, hugs to you.
My operating system crashed a few months ago. Fortunately, the computer shop was able to save everything before reloading my Windows program. On the unfortunate side, I had to reload all my software. Ding Dong that I was, I hadn't saved my serial number for my Adobe software. I did however have my receipt from the year past. They did issue me a new serial number and I was scrapping again.
It sounds like you are backing up when you can, but sometimes losses happen when we least expect. Anyway, like Fran and Cathy said, I bet you can get designers to give you the kit again since they would have record of your purchases.
Good luck to you!

So sorry about your hard drive

Amber,

If you send me your email address I'll send you some kits via YouSendIt.com to help you start over.

If you don't have a new computer yet, just contact me when you're ready. I don't know if you had any of my kits. If you did, let me know which ones, and I'll get those to you. If you didn't have any of my kits, it doesn't matter. I'm sending you some stuff anyway to get you back on your feet again.

My email address is kbalint AT san.rr.com. Replace the AT with the @ sign.

There should be no reason to re-purchase your kits -- here at SBB we can RESET YOUR downloads and you can redownload them. Most other digital store also use they same cart system so they should be able to do the same thing with just a few clicks of the mouse.

Be sure to check that first before you re-purchase.

here at SBB just contact customer.service@scrapbook-bytes.com with the email address assosicated with the account and we can look it up and reset them all if needed.

I am so sorry you lost so much.
