Unhappy Can you draw a straight line or box on PSE?

Hi, I'm semi-new, never posted in here before so forgive me if this has already been asked.

But how do you draw a thin line in Photoshop Elements 2.0? I'll bet its really easy but I went the hard way the other day to make this one: See this page

Okay, dont laugh...I opened up a new photo, made a black border, drew a box around a thin part of it, slid it over to my main page and then erased all the parts I didn't need..pixel by pixel! It took forever!!! I just know there has to be a better way.

Any help will be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hi Diane! I am using pse 2 sometimes, but I imagine this will go for pse 2 OR 3:

to draw a straight line, hold down the shift button while you draw - it will keep your line straight. Play around with that.

To do to a box, I actually just learned this the other day from Stacy Fox-Myers. Use the marquee tool and draw the square you want, then right click on the marching ants and select stroke to place a line around the shape you drew. (Formerly, I had been making a two shapes on two layers and selecting the smaller one with the magic wand, highlighting the bigger box and then deleting the shared space. LOL. Not as easy or fast!) HTH!

Hehehe. Well just think about it this way. I used pse2 for a year before I learned those things....and both, I do believe, came from my pse mentor, Stacy! LOL. Sigh. We can't know everything, but Stacy just might!

Don't feel like an idiot! There is so much to learn. One of the beauties of this forum is the vast amount of knowledge/help available. Dianne and Stacy are two experts to learn from!

I felt stupid recently as I had been cropping alphabets/element sheets when I just needed one element. It was a pain. Then I realized I could use the marquee tool to select and move the item I wanted. So much easier!

Don't feel stupid--just share all those cool tricks you learn that the rest of us might not know!

Thanks you guys. I do appreciate the help and the sweet comments too. It is a hard process to learn, especially when you're not sitting right next to someone who can help you...but having a forum like this feels like you almost are! Thank you!

My ears are burning over all the nice things being said about me. Just to throw in one more way to do this and there's always lots of ways to do the same thing in PSE...

Did you know that there's a straight line tool in PSE!?! It's grouped with the rectangular and custom shape tools. You can set the width of the line and then draw a straight line between any two points. Figured that one out while marking up screen shots for tutorials.
