TO BACK UP THERE DIGITAL PHOTOS I lost EVERYTHING... when we went to reformat. my DH saved the wrong folder and lost all my pictures. I had a good 1,000 I believe. and now they are all gone. also my scrap pages I did are gone. and I dont think I can print the ones in the gallery. they are to small
I know most of you are smarter then me. and backed yours up..lol but just wanted to put the reminder out there. incase someone has put it off. DONT go back up now.. You never know

OH MY TANYA!!! I'm so sorry. My DH would be in the dog house for the a very long time! At least you could get your LOs from the gallery and maybe make a slide show with them. I really need to back all my stuff up.

Thanks for reminder and you remember to count your blessings. That should make the lost photos seem less devastating.

Oh my Goodness Tanya, I am so sorry to hear that. I don't have very many pages done and have a couple almost done. I do save all my personal pictures and stuff periodically and I think that it is about time to save again to CD.

Tanya, SO sorry to hear that!!! My greatest fear is a house fire which would probably get all my photo's. But what happened to you is the same thing!!

I back everything up to CD - in fact - I don't even put it on the computer first. I highly recommend that everyone who does digital photography change their habits and do the following:

1) insert memory card into PC (or hook up camera)
2) Load up whatever software you use to burn to CD ( I use Nero)
3) Burn all the folders on the memory card to CD
4) Transfer your photos to your PC in whatever manner you usually do
5) Check the CD to ensure the photos are accessible
6) Check the photos on the PC to ensure they are accessible
7) Delete the photos off the memory card VIA the camera (never use the PC.. not good for the memory card and things can go haywire)

When you are working on editting files:

1) Save the picture as .tiff file into a working folder
2) Make all edits to the .tiff file and save it as you make edits
3) When finished, save the picture as a .jpg into a working folder

This will ensure the following:
1) You always have your original file (your negative so to speak) on the CD and the PC
2) You have a .tiff file which did not degrade as you saved and made edits
3) You have a .jpg in the best compression settings you can have after edits were made

Sorry to hear about your loss... Good Luck!

What an interesting reply! I am going to save this for future reference!

I have been working on backing up files the last couple of days because of what I fear is instability in my own system as well as the disaster of a friend who lost all her pictures from this year (and her dh is an avid photographer of everything!!).

On the fire note...my dh talked with one of his sisters yesterday. Their neighbor's house burned to the ground a couple of weeks ago. A cabinet in the basement survived, and in it were her photos!
